New York Red Bulls 2-1 Montreal Impact: Thierry Henry double sends Montreal packing

A pair of goals from its French star was enough to give New York possession of second place in the East.

New York went second in the East, behind the Houston Dynamo on goal difference, with a 2-1 win over the Montreal Impact.

New York opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time. Eric Alexander's shot clanged off the crossbar and fell to Fabian Espindola, who then passed to Thierry Henry. The Frenchman was unlikely to miss from close range, and he put a hard, low shot off in off Hassoun Camara.

Henry doubled his tally, and New York's lead, in the 88th minute. Marcus Holgersson flicked on Juninho's header, and Henry teed up a stupendous bicycle kick to take a 2-0 lead in fully impressive fashion.

Montreal pulled a consolation goal back in stoppage time through Marco Di Vaio, the Italian slipping in behind the New York defense and collecting Justin Mapp's through ball to finish coolly.
