A Mike Magee penalty provided the only goal of the game as the LA Galaxy beat the Colorado Rapids 1-0.
The Rapids lost two players to injury by halftime. Captain Pablo Mastroeni left with a left quad strain in he the 27th minute. Then Diego Calderon chased down and cleared a Jose Villarreal lob off the line, but bruised his thigh on the post in the process.
A few minutes into the second half, Colorado lost another -- this time to a red card. Off the ball, Drew Moor struck Marcelo Sarvas in the face.
"It wasn't an elbow, it was a hand. He punched me," Sarvas said. "He lost his mind, for sure."
The referee ejected Moor and awarded a penalty, which Mike Magee dispatched. Magee leads MLS in scoring in 2013 with four goals.
Without Robbie Keane (international duty) or Landon Donovan (sabbatical), the Galaxy's young teenage strike force of Jose Villarreal and Jack McBean each took six shots as Los Angeles peppered Clint Irwin's goal, but didn't add another tally to the scoreline.
