Zambia clinch 2017 U20 Afcon title

Guinea beat South Africa 2-1 in the 2017 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) third-place match at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on Sunday afternoon.

As a result the Young National Elephants clinched bronze, while Amajita came back home empty handed after finishing fourth.

Amajita had taken the lead through Liam Jordan, who fired past Guinea goalkeeper Moussa Camara, to make it 1-0 to South Africa five minutes into the game.

However, the lead lasted for three minutes as Amajita defender Katlego Mohamme headed into his own net to make it 1-1.

The score was 1-1 at the interval following an entertaining first-half which was well-balanced with both teams having changed their teams to give the squad a chance.

Guinea took the lead for the first time in the dying minutes of the second-half after the Young National Elephants were awarded a penalty.

Amajita captain Tercious Malepe handled the ball in the box and Naby Bangoura stepped up and converted from the spot-kick sealing - Guinea's 2-1 win.

Meanwhile, Zambia were crowned 2017 U20 Afcon champions after defeating Senegal 2-0 in the final at the National Heroes Stadium on Sunday night.

Patson Daka opened the scoring 17 minutes into the game when he poked home from close range to beat Senegal keeper Lamine Sarr, making it 1-0 to Zambia.

The Young Chipolopolo doubled their lead on the half-hour mark when Edward Chilufya scored following some confusion in the Young Lions of Teranga defence.

South Africa, Zambia, Senegal as well as Guinea will represent Africa at the 2017 U20 World Cup finals which will be hosted by South Korea between 20 May-11 June.
