Rangers finalise Sadiq Umar deal

Rangers have confirmed the signing of Sadiq Umar on a season-long loan from AS Roma.

Coach Steven Gerrard made the Olympic Bronze medalist a priority, lauding his abilities and has made sure the lanky striker commits his short-term future to the Glasgow outfit.

The Roma youngster becomes the club’s ninth signing, and second of the day after they secured a deal for Mali international Lassana Coulibaly - also on loan - from Angers earlier.

“Rangers are delighted to announce the signing of Umar Sadiq on a season-long loan from Roma, subject to international clearance,” read a statement on club website.

“The powerful striker, who stands at six foot three, joins the club for the 2018/19 campaign with a huge pedigree from his young career. He will be Steven Gerrard’s ninth signing of the summer.

“At 21-years-old Umar has already impressed with Roma and on loan, most notably during a spell at NAC Breda last season. He scored five in 12 appearances in the Dutch Eredivisie. To date, he has netted twice in six senior appearances for his parent club Roma, after breaking into the first team aged just 18.”

Umar makes it just in time to be included in Gerrard’s plan for their Europa League first qualifying round series which commence on Thursday when they take on Macedonian outfit FK Shkupi.
