There is a new set of coach and players from the previous edition of the Lion City Cup, but one should not dismiss the National Football Academy (NFA) Under-15 squad from getting the success their predecessors enjoyed.
Heading the team now, is former national skipper, Nazri Nasir who was known for his ability to lift the confidence level of his teammates during his playing days.
The NFA U-15 were in Sabah to take part in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Boys Festival of Football 2012, from May 29 to June 3, 2012. The tournament was used as preparation for the upcoming 24th Canon Lion City Cup which will start on June 23.The U-15 Cubs were the only team to remain undefeated throughout the whole festival chalking up a total of seven draws and two wins.
A player that stood out was attacking midfielder, Amirul Hakim who helped the team to victories against the Philippines and Brunei in the festival.
Heading into the Lion City Cup, the U-15s will feel at ease with tough-tackling defender Ameer Hakeem and no-nonsense defender, Shahrul Affandy, who also happens to be the captain of the team.
Coach Nazri will have depth in the attacking department as well with speedy Hami Syahin, Syukri Bashir and midfielder maestro Naufal Azman, who can double up as a forward when needed.
It will be interesting to see whether the patience and tactical build up play by Coach Nazri will overcome their much more physical opponents at the Lion City Cup.
The NFA U-15 will start their campaign on June 23, 845pm against Vasco Da Gama at Jalan Besar Stadium.
