Sepp Blatter's biggest controversies
Brands Ronaldo a footballing 'slave'
The Swiss was not always quite so dismissive where Cristiano Ronaldo was concerned. In 2008, after Sir Alex Ferguson had made it clear the then-European champions would not sell the Portuguese to Real Madrid, Blatter hit out at the nature of transfers and contractual agreements in the game, saying: "I think in football there's too much modern slavery in transfering players or buying players here and there, and putting them somewhere [else]." Few were impressed by the remarks, and Blatter quickly issued another apology.
