Tottenham were sitting fourth in the Premier League as they chased a Champions League spot under Juande Ramos, and took a first-half lead through Dimitar Berbatov's close-range finish.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side were desperately off the pace and being comfortably held at bay thanks to superb performances from Michael Dawson in the heart of Spurs' defence, and debutant Alan Hutton at right-back.

Robbie Keane missed a glorious chance to seal three points for the home side and he was punished when Carlos Tevez bundled home from a corner with the last kick of the game.

Spurs went on to win the League Cup, but could not hold on to their top-four spot, while United took their momentum forward to lift the Premier League and Champions League trophies at the end of the season.
