Bale scored 26 goals for the north Londoners in all competitions last season, and netted four times in six World Cup qualifiers for Wales, en route to being crowned the PFA and FWA Player of the Year.
The Spanish club's charm offensive began in earnest in May, with Perez and Zinedine Zidane laying the seeds of an ambitious swoop for Bale – the Madrid chief even claimed the 24-year-old was “born to play” for the Santiago Bernabeu outfit. Tottenham have been left seething by the club's “dirty tricks”, among them, the flurry of frontpage splashes from Madrid mouth-piece Marca, agent Jonathan Barnett's appearance on a local radio station and a 'now or never' warning to Bale.
But the former Southampton player looks set to swap Seven Sisters for the Spanish capital after Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, begrudgingly, opened talks over a world-record obliterating £100 million cash-only sale.
