The world's most passionate supporters
5. Urawa Red Diamonds
Most Aussies were first introduced to the Urawa Red Diamonds' fans in 2007 when they faced Sydney FC in the Asian Champions League. The Urawa faithful travelled to Sydney in great numbers and produced a performance in the stands that made Australian football fans really stand up and take notice. But it was in Sydney's away leg that Australians were confronted with the full force of the incredible Urawa support. In what is a regular occurrence at Saitama Stadium, 44,000 Reds fans combined mass choreography, chants and relentless flag waving to create an intimidating atmosphere. By July 2009, Saitama Stadium had become such a fierce cauldron that Urawa bosses were forced to try to attract frightened away fans back. "Saitama Stadium has a bit of an image for being a frightening place," Reds president Mitsuo Hashimoto said. "We want to make it more friendly".
