According to reports, Zaccheroni has signed a contract until 2019, when UAE will host the AFC Asian Cup.

Zaccheroni previously won the 2011 edition of the tournament as head coach of Japan.

The latest appointment comes after Edgardo Bauza, who was named as UAE head coach in May this year chose to switch to Saudi Arabia after their qualification to the 2018 World Cup.

Zaccheroni arrives with a stellar reputation having previously coached Japan, Juventus, Torino, Inter Milan, Lazio, AC Milan and Udinese.

However, the 64-year-old still has a point to prove after his latest stint at Beijing Guoan in the Chinese Super League last only five disastrous months.

He was dismissed from his post after the club suffered their worst start to the league with just two wins in nine games.

Zaccheroni's first game in charge will be in a friendly with Egypt on November 9.
