Door opened to Man City forward Nolito for Celta Vigo return

Manchester City forward Nolito would be welcome back at Celta Vigo if he is prepared to lower his wage demands, says the La Liga club’s president Carlos Mourino.

The Spain international made a £13.8 million move to the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2016, with City seeing off interest from Barcelona to land the 30-year-old.

Nolito has, however, been restricted to just 28 appearances in all competitions, with only nine of those being Premier League starts.

Who could Man City sell this summer?

With his future in England uncertain, Mourino says he would happily bring a top talent back to his club if he follows the lead of ex-Liverpool man Iago Aspas and accepts a smaller salary.

“Nolito can return, yes, but we cannot pay his salary,” the Celta supremo told TVG.

“The same happened with Iago as we could not pay him as much.”

Mourino is also hoping to receive positive news regarding the future of highly-rated coach Eduardo Berizzo.

A former defender at the club, the 47-year-old has overseen a run through to the semi-finals of the Europa League this season, where Celta will face Manchester United.

Berizzo has postponed a decision until the end of the season, with his current contract set to expire.

“It’s not a money problem, he will decide what he wants to do with his future,” added Mourino.

“When we contacted him it was clear that he will not talk to anyone until the league campaign is finished.”
