The Ghana international is delighted with the forward’s decision to extend his stay at the Wanda Metropolitano earlier this summer

Thomas Partey has revealed that Atletico Madrid players are happy that Antoine Griezmann signed a new deal to remain at the club.

Before playing a huge role in France’s 2018 World Cup triumph where he notched four goals, Griezmann was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona.

But the France international ended speculations by signing a new contract with Diego Simeone's side that tied him to Spanish capital outfit until June 2023.

And Partey who has been actively involved in Atletico's pre-season training is anticipating the return of the 26-year-old who scored 29 goals in 49 matches last season.

"We are very happy that Griezmann is still with us," Partey was quoted by Marca.

"He is the best player we have and we are all looking forward to playing with him again."

The Rojiblancos bolstered their midfield with the signing of Thomas Lemar for £52.9 million this summer – a move that adds more competition in the team and might affect Partey’s playing time in Diego Simeone's squad.

"Competition within a team is normal, as it always is. What you must do is concentrate and continue playing as a team to fight for titles," he continued.

"It is also very important that there are players coming from the youth system, it isn't easy to do that.

"They serve as the perfect example for other young people who want to become like them."
