The Suzuki Cup winning Malaysian coach and former Chelsea captain are both high on the list of candidates to lead the Vietnam national team
Former French World Cup winning defender Marcel Desailly is amongst the final six candidates in the running for the post of Head Coach of the Vietnam national team.
Reports from Vietnam have stated that the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) have narrowed the list from the original 16 to replace Hoang Van Phuc who left the post last month.
AFF Suzuki Cup winning former Malaysia coach K.Rajagobal is also believed to be in the shortlist, with the remaining candidates from Japan, Scotland, Belgium and Spain.
Rajagobal was in charge of the Harimau Malaya from 2009 to late last year when he decided to leave his post following the end of his contract. He led Malaysia to their first AFF Championship by winning the 2010 Suzuki Cup, a year after clinching the Gold medal at the SEA Games.
The chosen candidate will lead the Vietnam national team and will also be tasked with overseeing the U23 side.
Meanwhile, the VFF have also announced that they have set aside USD18.2million for football expenditure this year.
Vietnam will be co-hosting this year's AFF Suzuki Cup along with Singapore in Novemeber this year. The AFC Futsal Championship, AFC Women's Asian Cup and the AFF U-19 Championship will all be held in Vietnam as well.
