The 40-year-old will be in charge of both the Thailand senior team and the Under-23 team after leading the latter to SEA Games gold earlier this month

The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) is set to give former international Kiatisuk Senamuang a dual role  in charge of both the senior national side and the Under-23 team.

The former Thai star striker recently led the U23s to the SEA Games gold medal in Myanmar after going through the tournament unbeaten and beating Indonesia 1-0 in the final. The result meant that Thailand has now won the tournament for a record 14th time.

“Everybody agreed to his appointment,” FAT president Datuk Worawi Makudi said.

Considering the senior team is already out of contention for a place in the 2015 Asian Cup, Kiatisuk’s first major challenge for the team would be to lead them to victory in the AFF Suzuki Cup in 2014, a tournament they last won in 2002.

As for the U23 team, the target will be a top-four finish at the Asian Games in South Korea next year.

Kiatisuk is the highest goal scorer in Thai history and is the most capped player in the country with 70 goals in 131 games. The 40-year-old has had playing stints in various countries including England, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand.
