The striker has backed his Southampton team-mate to be a success for the Three Lions following a string of impressive displays for the high-flying south-coast side

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert has hailed Adam Lallana's recent performances and believes he will shine on his England debut.

With Roy Hodgson's charges set to face Chile and Germany at Wembley, the Saints captain is expected to be afforded an opportunity to impress after a string of standout domestic performances.

Lallana - who has also been joined by team-mate Jay Rodriguez in the England fold - is in the form of his career according to Lambert, with Southampton currently third in the Premier League.

Referring to Southampton’s win over Hull, Lambert told reporters: "Adam put in an unbelievable performance. He has played well quite a lot this season but that is the best I have seen him play. He was frightening.

"It was good to know Roy Hodgson was there to witness how good he is. He made us tick and everything went through him. He also scored an unbelievable goal.

"It is good the manager has called up a few new players as that is how I got my chance. I am sure Adam and Jay will do well in training or if they get a chance in a game, they will show what they can do."

Meanwhile, Saints right-back Nathaniel Clyne was pleased to hear his efforts have not been overlooked by Hodgson, who admitted the 22-year-old is in his thoughts for a future call-up.

"It shows that my good form is being looked at, and hopefully if I keep on performing the way I am, I’ll get a shot at performing with England," Clyne told reporters.

"That would be a dream come true, really. We’re all flying high at the moment. We must be doing something right.

"Players are getting looked at to go and play for England. Hopefully they represent well and hopefully if I keep performing I can get my call-up as well."
