The Japanese midfielder backs his side to come good in the second leg of the AFC Cup semis...

Ryuji Sueoka hailed East Bengal’s performance against defending AFC Cup champions, Kuwait SC in the first leg of the semi-final where the Kolkata outfit went down 4-2..

"I think it was a good result for us. We scored two very important away goals. Honestly speaking, when the score line was 4-0, I thought there was no hope left for us. But the two goals changed the whole game. It was a great fight back from the team. Now we need to win 2-0 or 3-1. I think that is very much possible," Sueoka told Goal.

The Japanese midfielder suffered an injury in the second leg of the quarterfinal clash against Semen Padang in Indonesia and the former Dempo SC player confirmed that there is no chance of him making an appearance in the return leg against Kuwait SC.

"I am recovering well. I am into the rehabilitation process and the doctor has told me that it would take around 6 weeks to heal, which from date is another 5 weeks. So, I will certainly miss the return leg," he informed.

He also revealed that there were suggestions from doctors that he must go to the operation table, but he has opted otherwise.

"If I had gone for the operation, I would be out for almost 6 months. I didn't want to be out of action for so long. Also, I am very scared of surgery. So, the doctor prescribed me the rehabilitation way and I need another five weeks time," he mentioned.

Sueoka remained hopeful of his team’s chances to make it into the final of the continental competition and said, “I want to play in the finals of the tournament. I hope we win the home match and become the first Indian team ever to enter the finals.”
