The former Mexican international also credited the additional time spent on preparations for his side's dominant performance against Ulsan in the Club World Cup

A Cesar Delgado double and an early effort from Jesus Corona gave Monterrey a commanding 3-1 win over Ulsan Hyundai in the quarter-final, setting up a tantalising date with Chelsea in the final-four.

A year ago, the Mexican side dropped out after the heartbreak of a penalty shootout defeat to Japanese side Kashiwa Reysol. For Monterrey's coach, Victor Vucetich, the experience was invaluable in preparations for this year's competition.

"Our first aim was to reach the next stage," said the 55-year-old at the post-match conference.

"We lost by penalty kicks last year against Kashiwa Reysol, but I am very happy we achieved our aim in this year. The experience helped us very much.

"This time, we had much more time to prepare and did analysis on the Korean opposition a month in advance. Last year against Kashiwa, it just 3 or 4 days before. This year, we were in good condition for the game."

Vucetich also mentioned that he was counting on the experience of his international stars like Argentinian Delgado to help overcome their next opponents.

"Chelsea are a very famous team in the world, but we want to do our best," he added.

"We want to play again like we did in today's game. We also have players with international experience who will be important."

Ulsan Hyundai manager Kim Ho-Gon was in a despondent mood after his side exited the competition at the first hurdle.

"The standard of world football is very high," he admitted.

"I'm very disappointed. But next time we want to show we can play better football than we did today."

Kim also credited his opponents' defensive discipline for shutting out his side, adding: "Kim Shinwook played very well in the AFC Champions League, so we prepared to mix his ability with that of other players. However, today, we couldn't get our movements right because of our opponents' strong defending."
