Robbie Fowler could be playing his football in the Malaysian Super League (MSL) next season if all goes well, according to the Menteri Besar of Terengganu
Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said has announced that T-Team are in negotiations with former Liverpool and England striker Robbie Fowler, to secure his services as their player-cum-manager for the new season.
The Terengganu based club side are looking to revamp their team after a disappointing campaign this year, where they finished 8th in the Malaysian Super League (MSL) and did not make it past their group in the Malaysia Cup.
“I was told that Fowler is willing to take on the roles of manager, coach and player for T-Team. We are negotiating with him as we want to assess his fitness level,” Ahmad told a press conference in Kuala Terengganu yesterday, after chairing the State Executive Council meeting.
The Liverpool legend will however need to undergo trials before anything is decided, Ahmad confirmed.
“We want to hire him based on his current performance, not past glories. However, we hope to attract more fans for T-Team by having such a marquee signing.”
Ahmad also added that T-Team are looking at bringing in 29-year-old Ghanaian midfielder Derek Boateng to complement the signing of Fowler.
