Neymar's career had seemingly been building towards 2014 ever since he was a teenager after Brazil were confirmed as World Cup hosts.
A big-money move to Barcelona from Santos at the start of 2013-14 could have heralded the start of a trophy-laden campaign for club and country, but sadly that didn't materialise for the Brazilian.
Barca failed to win a major trophy for the first time in six years and much of the Camp Nou side's season was overshadowed by the courtroom and boardroom dramas surrounding his transfer.
At the World Cup, he starred as Brazil moved through to the last four, only to be denied his chance to play his part in the semi-final after fracturing his vertebrae against Colombia.
Ultimately, the up and down season meant Neymar had to settle for the No.30 spot in this year's Goal 50 list - but what lies in store next in the attacker's career?
