It was a surreal Sunday afternoon at Changi Airport's Terminal 3. Singapore football had not seen scenes like these for years, as some 800 people awaited the Lions' arrival from Bangkok, where they had sealed a record-breaking fourth AFF Suzuki Cup title the day before.
The squad and staff were then ushered off to an open-bus top parade throughout the city where they received much fanfare from the curious onlookers. Their final destination brought them to their beloved home - Jalan Besar Stadium - where they were welcomed by a packed grandstand.
The after-party took a massive five hours to complete, coupled with the four-hour flight back from Bangkok, but it was a memorable evening for the members of the Lions squad as a number of them took to Twitter to express their gratitude at the time and effort put in by the organizers.
"The welcoming party is awesome. Sorry for causing the massive jam. But we deserve it!" defensive midfielder Isa Halim
"Hater are always gonna hate cause they wish they will be in your place – nonetheless wish to thank all for the support and well wishes!" - Isa continues
"Certainly one of the memorable day of my life. Thank you everyone." - striker Khairul Amri
"Once again thank you to those who came to the airport and jalan besar to welcome us back! Love you all so much." - young centre back Safuwan Baharudin
"The support was overwhelming! I really appreciate those who took time off to celebrate our victory! Thank you guys!" - midfield playmaker Shahdan Sulaiman
