Four goals, including a memorable double against Malaysia in the opening match that set the stage for Singapore's path to victory, coupled with a sterling display in every match meant Singapore captain Shahril Ishak was named as the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup's Most Valuable Player.
Shahril scored a brace against Laos as well and saw his goal spell go dry following the group stages. But his contribution to the team was never in question as the Lions made history as the competition's first four-time champions by overcoming favourites Thailand 3-2 on aggregate.
The LionsXII player, who was also the tournament's second top scorer, picked up a personal cheque of US10,000 for his achievement.
Thailand's Teerasil Dangda meanwhile had the consolation of winning the Top Scorer award in addition to his side's runners-up medal.
