The brutal AFF Suzuki Cup competition has seen its first coaching casualty following the resignation of Phan Thanh Hung.

Phan oversaw a dismal winless campaign for Vietnam in the group stages were they were held by Myanmar and beaten by Thailand and Philippines, missing out on a semi-final berth.

In a meeting between the 52-year-old and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Phan admitted responsibility for his side's disappointing showing at the tournament and submitted his resignation letter.

The Ha Noi T&T coach was the first Vietnamese to ever lead the national team at the biennial AFF Championship and held the post for less than a year.

Vietnam were the first team to break the 12-year Thai-Singapore dominance in the competition when they lifted the 2008 championship.
