Despite several overseas-based players not joining up with the team, the Azkals are still set to feature a string of players who ply their trade abroad
Several players playing abroad may join up with Philippines for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012 as head coach Michael Weiss is set to delay naming his official squad until the deadline.
Reports from Philippines has emerged that Karlsruher SC’s Dennis Cagara, Esbjerg fB’s midfielder Jerry Lucena and India’s Salgaocar FC’s Angel Guirado are now with the squad in Bangkok.
Paul Mulder, Rob Gier, Ray Jonsson and Juani Guirado Aldeguer are also reported to be with the team, as well as players from the domestic league.
However first-choice goalkeeper Neil Etheridge will most likely miss out on the tournament having been recalled back to Fulham to serve as back-up to Mark Schwarzer.
As the AFF Championship is not officially part of Fifa's calendar of international games, clubs have no obligation to release players. The Azkals will first face record three-time winners Thailand on Sunday, with Vietnam and Myanmar to follow on November 27 and November 30 respectively.
Philippines’ 22-man squad has arrived in Bangkok, though amendments to the list may still be made after the team managers' meeting.
