As the Lions prepare to embark on their AFFSC campaign, Nike has provided the team with kits designed to protect the environment and bring out the best in players
The home kits will be in the traditional red and white which is synonymous with the Lions, while the away jersey will be in classic blue, a reference to Singapore’s identity as an island city surrounded by peaceful waters. There is also an emblem of the Lions logo on the inside of the jersey, meant to invoke the spirit of national pride in the players.
These kits were made from 100 per cent recycled materials, and were designed to help players perform in their maximum capacity.
In addition to recycled polyester, 13 recycled water bottles were also used in the manufacturing of the kit.
The kits are 20 per cent lighter than previous Nike jerseys, and features laser-cut ventilation holes to help cool players, and help ensure players do not feel too warm during a match.
Nike Singapore marketing manager Vijaya Kumar is proud to be able to provide the team with the technologically-advanced kits, and hopes it propels the team to greatness in the tournament.
“We are happy to be supporting the Lions once again. We hope this will inspire the players to achieve a breakthrough performance, and bring the title back to Singapore,” Kumar said.
Football Association of Singapore president Zainudin Nordin likes the new look of the kits, and is of the same sentiments as Kumar.
“Nike has designed a vibrant and energetic look for the Lions’ new kit which we are certain would be well received by both players and fans alike," Zainudin said.
"We believe the new playing kit will further inspire the national team players to perform to their best abilities during the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup, which kicks off later this month.
Zainudin is pleased to be able to work with Nike, and hopes that the FAS will be able to continue collaborating with Nike over the years.
