'We will be strong in Asia' - Philippines coach Hans Michael Weiss after his side's 2-0 defeat of Singapore

The Azkals coach was beaming with pride after the away win and claimed the absence of Duric made a difference
The Philippines recorded only their second win over Singapore at the Jurong West Stadium on Friday night as they defeated the home side 2-0. The Azkals last victory was back in June of 1972.

It was a win that coach Hans Michael Weiss felt could have a positive effect for his team going into the AFF Suzuki Cup towards the end of the year.

“It was a very satisfying performance and for most parts of the game we dominated the game and a higher score-line would have been possible," said Weiss.

"This would give us further confidence for the Suzuki Cup preparations.

“I was not surprised with how the game went but to be honest when we were aware that Aleksandar Duric won’t be playing, I knew that it was probably in our cards.

"Even at his age, Duric is still a very dangerous player."

Weiss then touched on the impact of the new players, adding: “We are in a process of building a very strong team and players like Schrock and Jerry Lucerna who play in the heart of our midfield are very crucial in developing this team."

"We have a large pool of players to choose from now and I think in one or two years, we will not only be strong in South East Asia but also in Asia.”
