Steve Bruce's side were stunned late on against Cardiff and drew 2-2, but Watford suffered an agonising defeat to Leeds, while Peterborough and Wolves were relegated to League One
|RESULTS IN FULL|
Hull City have secured automatic promotion to the Premier League following a dramatic 2-2 draw against Championship winners Cardiff City on Saturday.
Nicky Maynard's late penalty for Cardiff set up a nervy finish for Steve Bruce's side, who had taken a second-half lead through Nick Proschwitz and Paul McShane.
But Watford were unable to capitalise as a late error from debutant goalkeeper Jack Bonham, who saw a Ross McCormack chip to slip through his fingers, allowed Leeds to secure a 2-1 victory at Vicarage Road.
Joining Gianfranco Zola's side in the play-offs are Brighton, Crystal Palace and Leicester City, who all sealed wins on the final day of the Championship campaign.
Leicester clinched sixth place in a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest, who narrowly miss out on the play-offs after Anthony Knockaert's 90th minute goal at the City Ground.
Bolton also fell agonisingly short on goal difference after they could only manage a 2-2 draw at home to Blackpool on the final day.
At the bottom, Peterborough were relegated to League One in agonising fashion, as Mile Jedinak headed in a late goal to secure a 3-2 win for Crystal Palace.
That result meant Barnsley's 2-2 draw away at Huddersfield was enough to see the Tykes safe by a single point.
Meanwhile, Brighton secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Wolves, which sent the Midlands side into League One.
