Cardiff City's lead at the top of Championship was cut to five points as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to Brighton, Andrea Orlandi and Jose Ulloa netting for the visitors, who move to within two points of the play-offs.

Second-placed Hull City continued their good form with a comfortable 2-0 win over Blackburn thanks to goals from Egyptian pair Gedo and Ahmed Elmohamady.

Crystal Palace and Watford continued their respective promotion charges with wins, while Yann Kermorgant and Danny Haynes guided Charlton to a 2-1 win at Leicester.

At the bottom, Peterborough, gave their survival hopes a boost with a 5-1 win at Millwall, Wolves fell into the drop zone with a loss at Barnsley. However it is Nottingham Forest who will grab the headlines, as Billy Davies' men romped to a 6-1 thrashing of Mark Robins' Huddersfield Town.

Swindon started life after Paolo Di Canio with a 3-1 win at Tranmere, James Collins opening the scoring before Gary Roberts netted a double to secure the points.

Di Canio's former assistant Fabrizio Piccareta confirmed that the former striker's staff will be stepping down after the game, following Di Canio out of the club.

Oldham built on their last-gasp FA Cup draw with Everton, coming from behind to Stevenage thanks to goals from Dean Furman and James Tarkowski.
