Southampton: 2013-14 season in statistics

Southampton emerged as one of the surprise packages of the season as a series of stellar performances secured an eighth-place finish.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men averaged the largest amount of possession in the Premier League with 58.6 per cent, and allowed an average of just 9.6 shots per game against them.

Southampton also boast four players who have forced their way into contention for England’s World Cup squad, and only Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard have provided more assists than Rickie Lambert this season.

Adam Lallana notched an impressive nine goals from midfield, and Luke Shaw’s displays at left-back have earned interest from Manchester City, United and Chelsea.
In midfield, Morgan Schneiderlin averaged 3.4 tackles per game, a statistic which was only bettered by West Brom’s Claudio Yacob (3.8) and Crystal Palace's Mile Jedinak (3.5).
