The Ivorian picked up the problem in training earlier this week and is now guaranteed to miss Newcastle's next two fixtures against Chelsea and Tottenham, and will be a doubt for the game against Aston Villa on February 23.
The 27-year-old has made 24 appearances for Newcastle this season and has taken the captain's armband in the absence of Fabricio Coloccini.
