The champions are readying an offer for the Chelsea man, but is he the player to improve the club's fortunes? Let us know your thoughts and vote in our poll
The biggest transfer news of the January window thus far is Manchester United's bid for Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata.
The champions are readying an offer for the Spain international, with the London side valuing Mata - who has struggled for minutes under Jose Mourinho this season - at £45 million.
David Moyes insisted ahead of the transfer window that United were not looking to buy a No.10 due to the form of Wayne Rooney, so why the change of heart?
After all, it cannot be ignored that Mata was named as the club's player of the season for the past two seasons - notching 32 goals and 48 assists.
But former United captain Gary Neville said on Monday that the former Valencia man does not naturally suit United's philosophy unless an overhaul of the squad is coming.
"They would have to change to accommodate Juan Mata in the way they normally play," he told Sky Sports.
"They normally play with wide players. Sometimes they tuck in, but generally they have wide players and the thing for me is where is he going to play?"
Do you think Mata is the player United need to improve their performances this season? Or should Moyes look elsewhere?
