The last week has been an expensive one for many UK bookmakers with several favourites winning, plus, betting expert JD explains his selections for this weekend
Bookmakers generally rely on favourites slipping up to save them from paying out. An extraordinary number of red hot favourites won in all 4 divisions in England leaving punters flush with cash.
It was a great victory for the average punter who routinely "has a go" at winning some money each weekend with big priced accumulators.
Being brave can be rewarded
Although last weekend was exceptional in terms of favourable results it does show what perseverance and a little bit of luck can bring.
Many people do multiples or accumulators every week and they form a staple of a lot of people’s betting strategy.
It adds interest enjoyment and the chance of winning some money to football. One of my own clients recently won £200,000 with Bet365 on a multiple strategy involving qualifiers from the Champions League and Europa League groups.
This client formulated a very effective strategy and was brave enough to implement it and he got his reward. It did not happen overnight and it took time and money to come to fruition.
Remember one thing; layers have to get lucky every week to avoid big pay outs. You only need to get lucky once to hit the jackpot.
This weekend’s tips
Looking ahead to the weekend, there are a number of teams I will be looking to oppose. It has been a volatile first half of January and I am hoping to get back on the winning trail this weekend.
In Spain, Espanyol are worth opposing at home to Celta Vigo. Celta had a morale boosting win at home to Valencia last weekend but their best performances have come on the road.
Espanyol have only won four out of their last 16 home matches in the league. We can back Celta Vigo and the draw at 10/11 (1.91) with bet365 which looks a generous price.
I will also be looking to oppose Norwich City at home to Hull City. Steve Bruce's side have been excellent this season and have surprised a few people with the comfort they have displayed in the Premier League.
They have added some firepower to their squad this week and can improve further. Hull City can be backed at 11/10 (2.10) with bet365 on a draw no bet basis which will see your stake returned in the event of the match finishing all square.
