In some of the world's top leagues, namely England and Spain, we have exciting and unpredictable title races to enjoy beforehand.
Football brings us much joy, many opportunities and I look forward to steering you through 2014 in a profitable way.
Make note of rotation for cup matches
One of the factors in my betting strategy I monitor, particularly at this time of year, is team rotation.
We have cup matches to look forward to in England and Spain over the next 7 days and it is always worth noting the teams and coaches who tend to chop and change.
At this stage of the season, some teams are embroiled in a relegation struggle and are simply not interested in a prolonged cup run. Another competition can be a strain on resources and may impact on a struggling teams chances of retaining their league status.
If you are looking to get involved in these markets it's important that you are aware of the kind of team selection and how any fringe players being included impacts upon their chances.
This weekend's tips
Looking ahead to the weekend, in Spain we have the derby between Valencia and Levante to look forward to on Saturday.
Valencia are not the force they were in previous seasons and have only won four of nine home league matches so far. At 1/2 (1.50) in places to beat their neighbours and they look too short. bet365 go 13/8 (2.63) on Levante to win or draw and it is decent value.
They are sure to be to be motivated for this derby and they have proved stubborn opposition at times this season.
In the FA Cup, Norwich City can overcome Fulham at 11/10 (2.10) with Paddy Power.
Fulham are likely to make significant changes for this match and their fringe players were thoroughly exposed over Christmas as they were beaten 6-0 at Hull City.
