Injured Coloccini out of Newcastle's clash with Liverpool

The Argentine defender suffered a groin injury while away on international duty and will not be available for the Magpies' Premier League clash with the Reds on Saturday
Alan Pardew has confirmed Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini will be unavailable for Saturday’s Premier League encounter with Liverpool.

The Argentine defender sustained a groin injury while away on international duty and has now been deemed unfit for the game at St. James’ Park.

“We have had an injury to Colo and he won't feature this weekend,” Pardew told the Evening Chronicle.

“It is disappointing. We will see how it goes in the next few days.”

However, the blow of Coloccini’s absence has been cushioned by the return or fellow centre-back Steven Taylor, who has now recovered from a hamstring injury that kept him out of action for a month.

With Mike Williamson and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa also available, Pardew is confident of overcoming Coloccini’s absence.

“We should be able to cope,” he insisted.
