The club-record signing admits he is still getting used to the more physical nature of the Premier League, and is aware his World Cup place is at risk he does not improve

Tottenham midfielder Erik Lamela has admitted he is still adapting to the physical nature of the Premier League.

The 21-year-old made the switch to Andre Villas-Boas' side from Serie A leaders Roma in August for a club-record deal worth up to £30 million deal.

But he concedes he will quickly have to pick up the pace of England's top flight if he wants to be named in Alejandro Sabella's Argentina squad for the showpiece event in Brazil next year.

"English football is a lot more physical," Lamela told Clarin. "It is not like the tactical game they play in Italy.

"I have talked a lot with my team-mates and I know I have to adapt quickly if I am to keep my place in the national team ahead of the World Cup."

Lamela has appeared seven times in all competitions for Tottenham this season.

Villas-Boas' charges sit sixth in the Premier League standings, with 13 points taken from their seven top-flight fixtures.
