The 31-year-old has called for cool heads despite Sam Allardyce's men enduring a torrid run so far and insists his side must take on Tottenham with a confident attitude

Kevin Nolan has appealed for calm in the West Ham camp despite a slow start to the season.

6/1 The Hammers are 6/1 with Coral to win at Tottenham on Sunday
The Hammers currently sit in 17th place in the Premier League after the first six games, having managed to find the net just four times with star striker Andy Carroll on the treatment table.

But the veteran midfielder insists there is no reason for hysteria so early in the campaign.

"We can't afford to panic," he told West Ham's official website.

"We understand the position we're in. I've been in this type of position at this stage of the season before.

"At the minute, things are just not falling for us and refereeing decisions are absolutely killing us.

"When your major signing [Carroll] cost £15 million and he's not playing, it's going to affect you - but it's down to the lads to step up to the plate."

The Upton Park outfit will travel to north London to take on Tottenham at the weekend and Nolan believes there is a need to enter the encounter with positivity.

"Tottenham are in a great run of form but it's a local derby and we're going to go there with nothing to lose and have a good go at them," he continued.

"Hopefully it'll be the start of the little run that we need."

The Hammers face Spurs at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.
