The twice-capped Super Eagle scored the winning goal for Hull City against Newcastle last weekend
Sone Aluko has had two stints in the English Premier League with Birmingham and now with Hull City with both times being under Steve Bruce.
However, it is this second stint with Hull City that has brought him his first ever Barclays Premier League goal which helped the Tigers defeat Newcastle 3-2 and claim Hull’s first win away from home.
And what a strike it was! His manager, Steve Bruce said Aluko is one player that could take the EPL by storm, and the 24-year-old is starting to prove that with the volley against the Magpies.
“It was a good goal,” Aluko told Hull City TV after the match.
“Boydy did well on the left, although I didn’t think he had seen me to be fair. But he cut it back really well and I just had to concentrate on getting a good contact.
“When it hit the post, it seemed to take an eternity to go in but I’m happy it went in, happy with the result and it turned out to be a winning goal.
“All of the pace was on the ball to be fair, so I just had to control it onto the target. If I’d tried to ‘leather’ it, it would have gone out of the stadium,” he added.
Steve Bruce believes the Nigerian is just about fulfilling his undoubted potential.
“I gave him his first-team debut when he was 16 and kept an eye on him when he was playing in Scotland,” Bruce told the club’s official site.
“I honestly think he was the best player in the Championship last season. He needed to strengthen up and I think he is only just realising his full physical potential,” Bruce added. If Aluko continues in this good form, then the Super Eagles might have to come knocking on his door very soon.
