Wayne Rooney has thanked Manchester United fans for the "unbelievable reaction" he received during the 0-0 draw with Chelsea on Monday.

The striker made his first start of the season against the club vying for his signature, and put in a stand-out performance in front of a packed Old Trafford crowd.

Goal revealed earlier in August that Rooney feared a backlash from fans if his move to Stamford Bridge was blocked, and has now moved to thank the United support for their response to his performance.

"It was an unbelievable reaction from the fans, so thank you," he wrote on his Facebook page.

"I really appreciate your support. It means a lot."

Rooney was cheered throughout the goalless draw but Goal understands that his future remains in question as Arsenal are preparing to make an audacious late bid.

Elsewhere, fellow United striker Angelo Henriquez has joined Real Zaragoza on a season-long loan.
