Vietnamese star Le Cong Vinh arrived in Sapporo to a hero's welcome as he begins his five-month stint with Japanese side Consadole Sapporo.
The 27-year-old was greeted at the airport by Vietnamese residents in Hokkaido as well as Japanese journalists.
"Honestly, I didn't expect to be welcomed by so many Vietnamese supporters and Japanese media," said Vinh modestly.
"Although being quite tired, I feel very happy. Before departing for Japan, I heard Sapporo citizens are very friendly and now I can feel it clearly."
The forward will remain with the J-League 2 side until January 2014, and will be in his second stint with a foreign club having had a loan spell with Leixoes Sport Club of Portugal in 2009.
