A man has been arrested by the Scottish Police for racially abusing the Ghanaian player over the weekend at Firhil Stadium

A 42-year-old man is in police grips for racially abusing Ghanaian midfielder Prince Abankwah Buaben.

The man was ejected from the Jackie Husband Stand and arrested during Partick Thistle’s match against Hibernian at Firhill Stadium on Saturday.

Goal Ghana understands that Buaben, who is currently on loan from Carlisle United, was the target of the alleged behaviour.

A Police spokeswoman said the man was detained in connection with alleged offences under the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012.

A club statement said: “Partick Thistle does not accept racism, sectarianism, homophobia or bigotry of any kind and anybody found to be using such language will be ejected and banned from attending games in the stadium. There is no place for bigotry at Firhill.”

A Crown Office spokesman said: “The Procurator Fiscal at Glasgow has received a report regarding an incident involving a 42-year-old man that allegedly occurred in Glasgow on 15 March.

“The report remains under consideration of the Procurator Fiscal.”
