Kenyan clubs taking part in continental football received a major boost on Thursday just two days before travelling away for their reverse fixtures.
President Uhuru Kenyatta donated Sh500, 000 each to AFC Leopards' and Gor Mahia with Nairobi senator Mike 'Sonko' Mbuvi topping up with another Sh200, 000 each.
'Sonko' promised another Sh200, 000 to the teams for every goal scored in their continental assignments.
"This donation is meant to motivate the teams to do well in their weekend continental assignments. We challenge them to carry the country's flag high," 'Sonko' told Goal.
Gor Mahia left the country on Thursday to take on US Bitam of Gabon on Saturday in a Caf Champions League fixture while Leopards' are scheduled to depart on Friday for their Confederations Cup return leg match against Defence of Ethiopia.
Gor Mahia beat US Bitam 1-0 while AFC Leopards' won 2-0 against Defence FC.
