Ghana name strong XI to face Zambia: Ayew starts, Essien benched

Black Stars coach, Kwesi Appiah has named a strong squad to face Zambia’s Chipolopolo in Friday’s 2014 WC qualifier

Returnee Andre Ayew has been named in Ghana’s starting line-up to face Zambia in today’s 2014 World Cup qualifier at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

But Chelsea’s Michael Essien will start from the bench in his first Ghana call-up in two years after a self-impose exile due to recurrent injuries.

Coach Kwesi Appiah went for four defenders, four midfielders and two strikers, with Asamoah Gyan and Abdul Majeed Waris leading the attack.

Ghana’s preparations have been rocked with injuries to goalkeeper, Adams Kwarasey and Kevin-Prince Boateng.

Ghana’s starting XI:

Fatau Dauda, Daniel Opare, John Boye, Jonathan Mensah, Harrison Afful, Rabiu Mohammed,  Andre Ayew, Kwadwo Asamoah, Abdul Majeed Waris, Asamoah Gyan and Mubarak Wakaso
