Victor Wanyama made his historical appearance in the English Premier League (EPL) as he lined up in a Southampton shirt in his sides 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. Wanyama, who became the first Kenyan player to feature in the EPL, played the whole 90 minutes and was great in the middle of the pack. Rickie Lambert scored the only goal of the match. The Kenyan captain signed for Southampton this season from Scotland champions Celtic at a record fee of Sh1.6billion.
Dennis Oliech's Ajaccio remains winless in the French Ligue one after holding PSG 1-1 on Sunday. Benoit Pedreti had put Ajaccio ahead in the ninth minute and the visitors held for a better part of the match threatening to cause the biggest upset in the French Ligue. However, a late goal by Edinson Cavani in the 86th minute saved the blushes for PSG. Oliech was a second half substitute in the match after coming on for Joshua Nadeu.
Jockins Atudo played the whole 90 minutes when his club Azam of Tanzania went down 1-0 to Tanzanian champions Yanga in the Community Shield Cup played at the National Stadium in Dar-e-Salaam. Salim Telule scored the only goal for Yanga in the second minute of the match to hand the champions their first trophy of the season. Humphrey Mieno another Kenyan midfielder did not take part in the match as he is nursing an injury and will miss the season opener this weekend.
Patrick Olum was a second half substitute when his club Sporting Kansas went down 1-0 to San Jose Earthquakes in their Major League Soccer (MLS) match on Sunday. Chris Wondolowski's header early in the second half was all the San Jose Earthquakes needed to pick maximum points at home. The match was a back and forth affair, as neither team was able to gain a foothold in the game, and clear-cut chances were few and far between.
