The incident occurred in Maldives where the team were in to compete in the 2014 AFC Challenge CupA team bus ferrying the Afghanistan national football team met with an accident on Saturday evening in Addu City, Maldives.
The South Asian side were heading back from their AFC Challenge Cup Group B draw against Laos when the incident occured.
Latest reports indicate five players, five team officials and a local police escort was hurt in the accident. Afghanistan captain Haroon Fakhrudin is reportedly amongst the injured.
Ibrahim Rasheed, a senior official at the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) told local media that the injuries are not serious and all victims were getting the best treatment,
Afghanistan are in the semi-finals of the 2014 Challenge Cup after finishing runners-up to Philippines, who beat Turkmenistan 2-0 with goals from Philip Younghusband and Patrick Reichelt to advance as well.
Both teams will be in action next on May 27 where they face Palestine and Maldives with the eventual winner of the competition proceeding to the 2015 Asian Cup.
