Baihakki set to rejoin LionsXII

The Singapore international will return to his former club for the rest of the season after agreeing terms, pending the green light from the Football Association of Malaysia

The LionsXII are set to welcome Baihakki Khaizan back for the remainder of the Malaysia Super League season, after the Singapore international agreed terms for a move.

The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) confirmed to Goal Singapore on Wednesday morning that the 30-year-old will rejoin the LionsXII, pending the green light from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).

"His move is not official yet because we are waiting for the Football Association of Malaysia to finalise the paperwork and give the green light," a FAS spokeperson indicated. "We will update the media when Baihakki has been cleared to play for the LionsXII."

Baihakki joined JDT at the start of the 2014 Malaysia Super League season but was cut from the team in the middle of last month, where he announced that he would take a break for the rest of the campaign before rejoining JDT II, the club's Premier League side. It is understood that Baihakki will still link up with JDT II next season after ending his LionsXII season.

There was talk of Baihakki coming back to the LionsXII on loan, but the FAM subsequently ruled that he would not be allowed to do so and that the only way was to have his JDT contract terminated. Last week, both JDT and Baihakki mutually agreed to terminate the four-year contract, which left him free to join the LionsXII.

The move would come as good news for Baihakki, with the AFF Suzuki Cup to come at the end of this year, as it enables him to get regular playing time.
