The Goan coach was pleased that his side bagged full points against the Mariners on Sunday....
Salgaocar FC snapped their winless run to beat Mohun Bagan 1-0 at the Tilak Maidan, Goa on Sunday.
The match was a tight affair as both sides had few chances in the first half. After the interval, Dudu Omagbemi, the winter signing gave his side the lead with a calm finish after he was found by Gilbert Oliviera.
Salgaocar FC coach Derrick Pereira was pleased and relieved in equal measure on his side's crucial victory. It must be noted that Bagan had handed Salgaocar their first defeat this term and when the two teams met in Federation Cup, a 1-1 draw ensured.
"I don’t use that word but yes, it was a good victory for us. It was very, very important. We went seven matches (I-League) without a win and after the break we were starting all over again. It was important to get a good result."
New signing Dudu scored the winning goal, but he also had a couple of other good opportunities that went begging. The coach said once the striker settles down it will be much easier for him.
"Dudu has just joined us a week back and he is a bit rusty. For sure he’ll get better, he’ll get fitter and he’ll understand our game and our players. I’m sure he’ll do much better than he did,” said the coach.
The strike duo of Darryl Duffy and Omagbemi didn’t have the best coordination and Pereira believes that it will improve in the coming weeks.
"They were playing for the first time so you could see there was a lack of understanding. So you could see we were struggling a bit .The efforts were there especially in defense, the boys put in a good effort. We defended well and I am happy about the whole performance."
