thumbnail Hello,

The J-League Division 1 side have secured the transfer of the half-Dutch winger from Thai Premier League club Chonburi FC

Indonesia winger Irfan Bachdim will ply his trade in Asia's best league next season after securing a move to J-League Division 1 side Ventforet Kofu.

The Garuda star, who joins Ventforet from Thai Premier League side Chonburi FC for an undisclosed fee, was officially unveiled at a press conference earlier on Monday and has signed a one-year deal.

The 25-year-old Irfan will wear the number 13 jersey and underlined his ambitions at the Japanese side.

"My target is not to score many goals, but to play as often as possible," he declared.

"I would like to develop into a better player. I hope I can help the team with my best. I am honored to be here to realise the dream of playing at the highest level in Asia."

Irfan also stated that he felt motivated to perform as he wanted to put himself back into reckoning for the national team.

"Now it all depends on me; if I perform well, of course I deserve to be back to the national team," he asserted.

"I am sure he (national team coach Alfred Riedl) agrees with my decision to play in the highest competition level in Asia."

Ventforet general manager Satoru Sakuma believes the coaching staff can help their new signing to adapt and be a success.

"In J-League, we play collectively in offense and defense, and have to change it quickly during the game, so Irfan should familiarise himself with the style of J-League," he explained.
"[But] in only 30 minutes [during the] trial, he has proved his potential for the team. He has good technique, positioning and speed. We jope those abilities can be used [well] in the J-League."

Irfan, who was once on the books of Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam in his youth, moved to Indonesia to play for Persema Malang in 2010. A subsequent move to Chonburi in 2013 was embroiled in controversy after Persema claimed that it was unauthorised, although the transfer eventually went through.

After injury problems at in Thailand with his new team, Irfan was shipped out on loan to Sriracha FC for a period before being invited for trials in Japan with Ventforet and Vegalta Sendai in December last year.

Ventforet finished 15th in the league last season and will hope Irfan can help them do better in 2014.
