The Malaysian U-23 team is set to take on FC Ryukyu in a friendly game this week and Ong Kim Swee intends to use the match as vital preparation for the upcoming SEA GamesHarimau Muda head coach Ong Kim Swee has openly declared that their friendly game against Japanese third division side FC Ryukyu, will be used as a yardstick to help him determine the final squad for the upcoming South East Asian Games.
The Malaysian U-23 team are scheduled to take on the J3 League side on Wednesday night, and Ong Kim Swee reiterated that his men will be required to give their all in order to make the cut for the SEA Games squad.
"This match will be the opportunity for me to choose the final 20 players. They must have the attitude to not only win tomorrow, but also win every game."
This year, we have a lot of experienced players, but not national players. And the most important element for me is teamwork, something that I'm happy with based on what I'm seeing in the training.
Only 20 players will be eligible to participate in the SEA Games and Ong Kim Swee went on to promise that he will be looking to utilize everyone in the training team now, in order to provide a fair chance to all of them. At the same time, several key players will also be absent from the game tomorrow due to injuries.
"We have a lot of options in attack but our main concern is in defence. I will probably look to select players who are versatile due to fixture congestion.
"Irfan might even be a reserve eventhough he is the captain. I will be looking to utilise everyone tomorrow.
"Having said that, Nik Shahrul, Wan Zack, Junior Eldstal, Fandi Ahmad and Gary Steven are all ouf contention for tomorrow's game due to injuries."
