thumbnail Hello,

The Indian FA have presented its bid documents to the world governing body for football before the deadline…

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) have handed over the documents to FIFA with regards to their bid for the U-17 World Cup to be held in 2017. The deadline to submit the paperwork for the same was November 15.

“Yes, we have submitted the World Cup bid. We have got all the guarantees from the government. Mr.Sunando Dhar (CEO of the I-League) submitted the bid for us,” Kushal Das, the AIFF general secretary, informed Goal.

There was a delay in getting the finer points in the bid cleared, especially with regards to the guarantees with several ministries dragging their feet on the matter.  The guarantees ranged from tax exemptions for broadcasters and sponsors, foreign exchange remittances, security, transport and accommodation of players and provision of visas.

However the sports ministry got the necessary guarantees just in time which allowed the Indian FA to table its bid.

“It was not easy but our president, Mr.Praful Patel played a very crucial role and got it done at the right moment. Now we are fairly hopeful that our bid will be considered,” Das added.

Other nations competing for the bid include Uzbekistan, Ireland and the 2010 World Cup host South Africa. The decision as to who shall be awarded the hosting rights will be taken on December 3- when FIFA’s Executive Committee meets.
