Beijing Baxy attacker Ryan Griffiths is due to join Malaysia Super League side Sarawak pending a medical next month according to Goal sources.
Former Newcastle Jets winger and striker Ryan Griffiths is set to join newly promoted Malaysian Super League (MSL) side Sarawak Goal understands.
Griffiths finished his Beijing Baxy season this weekend in China’s second tier with a goal to make it nine for the campaign as his side finished an impressive seventh following near relegation in 2012.
Sarawak have famously dominated on their way to promotion in 2013 with 18 wins, four draws and no losses to see them safely qualifying for the top tier.
Baxy have had a developmental season, building up interest via the impressive signings of Griffiths, Lucian Goian from Tianjin Teda and Stephen Makinwa from Lazio.
At 32 years-old, Griffiths would bring a huge amount of interest with him to the MSL, while he only has 3,000 Twitter followers his Sina Weibo account now stands at just under 500,000 Chinese followers.
Ryan Griffiths' two twin brothers Joel and Adam have also had successful spells in Asia; Joel now at Qingdao Jonoon was also part of the 2009 Chinese Super League-winning squad while Adam plays in Selangor.
A spell in Malaysia would represent a new chapter for Griffiths who has had spells in Australia, Romania and most famously in Asia which was culminated with the 2009 CSL win with Beijing Guoan.
