The FAM announced that Malaysia look set to host the 2016 and 2017 FIFA Congress after the country reached the final stages of bidding.
The Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) general-secretary Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin is confident that Kuala Lumpur will be chosen as hosts of the 2016 and 2017 FIFA Congress.
Hamidin told the New Straits Times: “We are delighted to have made the final stage for the 2016 and 2017 editions as we have never hosted a FIFA Congress since becoming its affiliate.”
He further elaborated that with an opportunity to host the Congress, Malaysia can learn from its member associations and grow from there.
“If we are successful, Kuala Lumpur will hosts 209 member associations,” Hamidid enthused.
“It is an opportunity to show FIFA our country, and it can definitely be a springboard for our tourism industry.
“We have the infrastructure and state-of-the-art facilities to host an event like this and I believe we are ready and should win the bid.
“We need to continue improving and stay on the right platform with other associations.”
FIFA’s executive committee will hold a meeting on December 5 in Salvador, Brazil to make the decision on who will host the Congress in 2016 and 2017.
The 2014 FIFA Congress has been scheduled for Sao Paulo and the year after in Zurich, Switzerland where the world body will be carrying out its Presidential Elections.
